  23. Depending upon how your browser is set up, the 'fvp11mac.hqx' file will either unstuff automatically, or download as a file. Unstuff the file manually, if necessary.

  25. After unstuffing the file, perform the following steps to complete the installation.
  26.  
  27. 1) Quit Netscape.
  28.  
  29. 2) Drag the Fractal Viewer Plug-In (the file 'ViewFIF') inside the folder named 'Plug-ins' inside your Netscape folder.

  31. 3) Change the Netscape preferred memory size. (Highlight the Netscape icon, then select File/Get Info in the menu bar.) You should set the preferred memory size at least 2500 KB greater than the suggested memory size.

  33. 4) Restart Netscape.

  35. Then, fire up your Netscape browser and try Fractal Viewer in our Fractal Image Galleries!

  43. Limitations/Known Problems 
  44.  
  45. 1) Netscape Navigator v2.0x and FIF files embedded in Frames or Tables. Web pages that contain embedded FIF files inside HTML frames or tables sometimes cause Netscape version 2.0x to pass incorrect information to the plug-in. This can cause the Fractal Viewer plug-in to crash. This is a known problem with Netscape version 2.0x and is fixed in version 3.0. (Note: the "Images USA" and "What FIFs Can Do" links on the Iterated web site use FIFs embedded in tables.)

  47. 2) Netscape Navigator v2.0x caches previous JPEG images in memory, but does not release them when a Plug-in requests memory (it does release them for other JPEG images). This can lead to situations where the ViewFIF plug-in cannot display FIF images if you've previously browsed a large number of JPEG images. Netscape version 3.0 releases cached JPEG images for all types of memory requests.
